How a Mother Regained Hope & Found Herself

One of the many things that addiction can rob a person of is hope. It is amazing to see how much a person can turn their life around once they have made the decision to do so.

“Five years ago my family decided they were not going to watch me kill myself anymore. I had a death wish and they were going to do anything in their power to prevent my self-destruction. I would run away for months at a time to use heroin and any other drug I could find. I was in and out of jail constantly. My parents always said the best night sleep they got was when I was locked up and had no bail.

It is sad to say but I didn’t care about anyone or anything. I couldn’t care less that my mom drove around the drug sets of Camden, New Jersey looking for me crying and begging the drug dealers to tell me to come home. I didn’t care when I had my first child addicted to Methadone and then lost him in the system. I continued to use drugs. I was out of control and I had no hope. I tried to commit suicide. Suicide by overdose, suicide by walking the streets and I even drove my car into a brick wall.

If I would have known then how far I would come in life I would have run through that airport. I would have run to my new life and I would have run from the old one.

When my parents told me I was going to treatment, I was sitting in a jail cell, sick and dying and just wanted out. I agreed to go away and attend treatment at Narconon—A Life Worth Saving and the next day I was on a plane headed to Colorado. If I would have known then how far I would come in life I would have run through that airport. I would have run to my new life and I would have run from the old one.

Narconon gave me purpose and the tools I needed to stay sober and to be a productive person. I stayed and volunteered, helping others for a while and then moved on to correct my life. Since then I have gotten back full custody of my son, I cleared my record and haven’t seen the inside of a jail cell in 5 years. I am a full-time college student, a mother of two and I have one more blessing on the way. It’s hard to look back now into my past and even remotely recognize the person that I was in my addiction. Narconon helped me find myself. I found out that drugs only hid all wonderful things I am and Narconon paved the road for my success.“
