Establishing Personal Values

— David L.

One of the many things that drugs take away is the ability to care about what is right and what is wrong. An important part of recovery is learning to re-establish a personal moral code, and the Personal Values Course aims to help people do just that. It can be hard to realize where things began to go off track while still under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, it becomes easier with the clarity of sobriety. Once a person is able to see where they went wrong, they are better able to prevent the same mistakes from continuing to occur. Here is what one Narconon student had to say about this, after completing the Personal Values course.

“I used to be buried in the justification that I wasn’t that bad off because I only smoked heroin. I knew using heroin and driving was bad but now I see clearly the truth in how bad it is. In reality I am lucky to be alive and to have not harmed anyone.
Now that I am sober, I am part of the group that is changing the current pro-drug society. I realized that allowing my family to convince me to disregard the law is the point in time where I began to do poorly. It is key to my sobriety that I respect the law and not allow anyone to influence me otherwise.”
