How the Personal Values Course Can Bring About Relief

A person can accumulate a lot of guilt and shame from past misdeeds that were committed during active addiction. One of the difficult parts about this guilt and shame is that it can fuel a person’s addiction in order to seek out a temporary relief. The continuation of substance abuse can then cause a person to commit further transgressions while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This can develop into a rather destructive cycle which is why we put a lot of focus on looking at it during the Personal Values course. The goal of the Personal Values course is to assist a person in their process of reestablishing morals and personal ethical standards while at the same time taking responsibility for past misdeeds in order to prevent them from reoccurring in the future.

“I did a lot of bad things in my life, but writing what I did down gives me a sense of relief. They were mistakes that I don’t want to make again. I feel so much better letting out my harmful acts I kept inside.”
