Gray Death is Back and Deadlier than Ever

Gray Death powder

A few years back a ridiculous drug was found circulating on city streets. In the midst of a giant drug crisis, we needed a deadly combination of heroin, fentanyl, and other synthetic drugs like we needed a hole in our heads. This drug problem is one of the worst public health crises on record, so in the middle of the country reeling from daily fatal overdoses and drug busts, we have some new killer concoction of drugs hitting city streets, leaving death and destruction in its wake.

When I first heard about ‘Gray Death,’ I thought it was a sick joke until I finally realized that it was absolutely for real. The reason I thought it was some sort of farce was because of how ridiculous it was. I never, in a million years, thought there would ever be the existence of a substance that was a mix of heroin, fentanyl, and other synthetic drugs and that anyone would actually use it. As an ex-addict, I understand the desperate need and want for ultra-strong drugs that get you more for your money and buy you a couple more hours between your last shot and getting sick. However, using this specific mixture almost seems to guarantee you’ll overdose. Kiss your friends and family goodbye as you push the plunger down. I know death isn’t much of a fear for opioid addicts but even I would have decided against using something like ‘Gray Death,’ and I was as bad as an addict comes.

After first reporting the existence of this drug, it seemed to die away with no more news concerning it, that is, until now. In North Carolina there have been recent reports that the dangerous drug is back and contains a synthetic drug known as U-47700. This drug is very opioid-like and can be bought cheaply online.

“Gray death is one of the scariest combinations that I have ever seen in nearly 20 years of forensic chemistry drug analysis.”

Deneen Kilcrease, manager of the chemistry section at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said, “Gray death is one of the scariest combinations that I have ever seen in nearly 20 years of forensic chemistry drug analysis.”

Interestingly enough, U-47700 was found in some of the fake prescription pills found in Prince’s home after his fatal overdose years ago and likely played a part in it.

Now that ‘grey death’ is back on the scene, who knows who’ll fall victim to it. The issue with substance abuse is bad enough as it is and this type of ridiculous drug concoction just adds fuel to an already out-of-control fire and once again, the sick thing is that there will be some drug users out there who want this stuff. They’ll pawn their mother’s wedding band for it and sell their souls for one more hit. While the mass media wants us to pay more attention to the problems overseas or the “vaping epidemic,” but believe me, the most important issue is and always has been protecting ourselves from the scourge of drug abuse. We can’t lose sight of what our societal priority is, and that’s kicking drug’s butt once and for all.
